Abstract:
A method was developed for experimental investigation of the flash photolysis of iodides, based on determination of the time dependence of the laser gain ($\lambda$ = 1.315 $\mu$m, 5$^2 P_{1/2} \to 5^2 P_{3/2}$ transition in atomic iodine). This method makes it possible to calculate the time dependences of the probability of photolysis from the experimental results. This can be done taking into account secondary chemical reactions, dependences of the transition cross section on the temperature and composition of the medium, and the temperature dependence of the specific heat of the medium. The photolysis of perfluoroalkyl iodides n-C$_3$F$_7$I and iso-C$_3$F$_7$I was investigated on the assumption of the inverse square-root temperature dependence of the transition cross section. A correlation was found between the photolysis probability and the characteristics of the ultraviolet absorption bands of these iodide molecules.
