Full-text PDF (528 kB) Citations (2)
Abstract: It is shown theoretically that the optical dynamics of a system comprising a thin film of two-level atoms deposited on an insulating substrate can undergo a transition to chaos via a sequence of period-doubling bifurcations. The chaotic nature of the pulsations is supported by calculations of the Lyapunov exponent.
