Periodic control of the emission from a ruby laser achieved by a Q switch utilizing the transverse electrooptical effect

V. E. Terent'ev, A. A. Chertkov
Abstract: It is shown that a Q switch utilizing the transverse electrooptical effect in a KDP crystal can be used to achieve regular emission from a ruby laser with a maximum pulsation repetition frequency of the order of 150 kHz. This can be done by applying a modulation voltage not exceeding 1 kV. The energy losses under these periodic control conditions do not exceed 50%.
