Abstract:
A theory is proposed for a distributed-feedback (DFB) dye laser with a dynamic grating of inverted-population burning. This grating is created by spatially modulated radiation, which is in resonance with the active transition in the laser. A system of equations describing the DFB laser kinetics is derived for arbitrary powers of the pump radiation and of the radiation which creates the grating. The conditions for the self-excitation of this DFB laser are found. The temporal and energy characteristics of the output radiation are investigated for a DFB laser with a second-order grating.
