Abstract: A space-time analysis is made of the transient generation of coherent radiation by lasers utilizing organic dye solutions. The kinetics of the populations of excited electronic levels is also investigated. It is shown that the efficiency of such lasers depends strongly on the absorption of the pumping radiation by the excited electronic levels of the solute molecules.
