Abstract: The laser damage resistance of a bicrystal system prepared by solid-phase diffusive joining of specially prepared crystals of lithium niobate and lithium tantalate has been studied. This has been the first such study. The damage resistance of the interface is at least twice that of the lithium niobate surface. The damage resistance of the bicrystal is determined by the damage resistance of the lithium tantalate surface and is greater than 600 MW/cm2.
