Propagation of laser radiation along a vertical path in the atmosphere with stimulated Raman scattering

M. F. Shalyaev, V. P. Sadovnikov

Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics, Fryazino Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract: The effect of stimulated Raman scattering on the propagation of laser beams along vertical paths in the atmosphere has been studied. Threshold energies of the laser pulse for stimulated Raman scattering have been determined for such paths. The stimulated Raman scattering is more apparent when the radiation is propagating downward rather than upward.
