Brief Communications

TO-2 optical telephone

Abstract: A description is given of a telephone communication system utilizing a GaAs injection laser, emitting λ = 0.9 μ radiation at room temperature. This system reproduced frequencies in the 250–2500 Hz range. The power consumption did not exceed 3.5 W at a voltage of 9 V. The range of this optical telephone link was ~5 km.
