Abstract:
The effect of laser light on an aluminum surface has been simulated numerically for the case in which the frequency of the light is close to that of a resonance atomic transition. A mathematical model constructed here yields a picture of the interaction. This model is used to study various mechanisms for plasma production. A comparison with experimental data and analytic calculations yields support for this model.
