Abstract: A simple optical method for measurements of high-irradiance (3 × 1013 W cm–2) laser-induced shock waves is described. The shock wave velocity (~13 km s–1) was measured with an error not exceeding 5%. The laser-induced one-to-two-dimensional (1D-to-2D) shock wave transition was studied.
