Possible applications of infrared laser radiation in the crumbling of rocks

Abstract:
An investigation was made of the effect of laser radiation of λ = 10.6 μ wavelength and 100 W power on the mechanical properties and strength of various rocks. It was found that illumination for 5–40 sec reduced the strength by a factor of two to four.
