Abstract: A new effect has been observed experimentally: an increase by a factor of 1.2–1.5 in the unsaturated gain coefficient for a nanosecond pulse in a TEA CO2 laser amplifier when weak, quasisteady, monochromatic light propagates opposite the pulse. "Weak" here means that the intensity of this light is much lower than that of the light in the nanosecond pulse.
