Abstract:
The feasibility of phonon-induced laser action in indirect-gap semiconductors is demonstrated, as is laser action involving photons and phonons simultaneously. Rate equations are used to investigate the dynamics for various regimes of photon-phonon laser action. Steady-state solutions to these rate equations are investigated. The regions of stability of these solutions are determined. Approximate analytic solutions are obtained for the stable branches.
