Possibility of generating coherent light via microwave modulation of the index of refraction of an optical fiber

Abstract: The possibility of using the energy of microwave oscillations to generate light is discussed. The microwave carrier frequency in this case is lower than the frequency of the light by a factor of about 106. The frequency of the light generated in this way can be chosen from a wide range.
