Fabry-Perot interferometer as laser modulator and controlled-reflectivity mirror

A. I. Ritus

A. M. Prokhorov General Physics Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract: A piezoelectrically scanned Fabry–Perot interferometer with a short distance between mirrors is an efficient laser-light modulator and controlled-reflectivity mirror. The distance between the mirrors and the mirror reflectivities must satisfy certain conditions for this application of a Fabry–Perot interferometer. These conditions are given. The contrast and the switching rate are calculated. Experimental results are reported.
