Abstract: Two approximate formulas for the gain at the center of spectral lines with a mixed Voigt broadening profile are proposed. These formulas are convenient for practical calculations. The error of the first, and simpler, formula is less than 6%, and that of the second is less than 1%, for arbitrary relative contributions of the Lorentzian and Gaussian broadening.
