New method for measuring the focal distance of a thermal lens in solid-state lasers with a short active medium

Abstract:
A new method for measuring the focal distance of a thermal lens in solid-state lasers with short active elements is proposed and tested. The method is based on the quenching of lasing and allows a direct estimate of the focal distance with an error of ~10%.
