Nonlinear optical phenomena

Formation and decay of soliton-like pulses in transient concurrent stimulated Raman scattering

Abstract: Numerical methods are used in an investigation of the formation and decay of soliton-like pulses during amplification of 'seed' Stokes pulses by transient concurrent stimulated Raman scattering in a medium with a picosecond transverse relaxation time. Calculations allow for the finite time needed to shift the phase by π in the Stokes or laser pulses, for mutual diffractive focusing of axisymmetric laser and Stokes beams with very different wavenumbers, and for the generation of the anti-Stokes component (considered in the plane-wave approximation).
