The effect of temperature on the creation of population inversion in the active media of electric-discharge CO2 lasers

Abstract:
It is shown that population inversion can be created on the 0001–1000 transition in the active medium of an electric-discharge CO2 laser even if its temperature increases to ~1200 K. By retaining the discharge stability and increasing the selectivity of the upper level pumping, it is possible to build electric-discharge CO2 lasers without water cooling.
