Abstract: Various mechanisms of the appearance of a potential jump on a target irradiated by 10.6-μm laser pulses in vacuum are considered. It is shown that, in principle, the potential jump can be used to monitor the parameters of the laser pulses and measure the electron temperature of a laser plasma.
