Abstract: Pulses from a XeCl laser of 20 ns duration and with the line width 0.01 and 0.04 cm-1 were compressed in SF6. The optimal pump intensities were determined. A pulse of 1.5 ns duration with an energy of 10 mJ was obtained. The divergence of this short pulse was close to the divergence of the pump beam.
