Influence of spontaneous fluctuations of the carrier and photon densities on the dynamics of an injection laser generating picosecond pulses

Abstract:
A computer simulation was carried out of the dynamics of an injection laser emitting picosecond pulses under conditions of modulation of the pump current. Account was taken of random fluctuations of the carrier and photon densities. It is shown that the pulse duration can be reduced by a factor of 1.5–2 and that additional radiation peaks disturb the regular nature of a pulse sequence during each modulation period.
