Numerical modelling of an XeCl exciplex lamp (308 nm) with an Xe — NaCl mixture pumped by a hard ioniser

Abstract:
A proposal was made to pump an Xe — NaCl mixture by a hard ioniser with the aim of constructing a highly efficient XeCl lamp (308 nm). Under optimal conditions (pressure ~ 10 Torr, specific input energy ~ 60 – 125 W cm–3 , mixture composition Xe : NaCl = 20:1) the efficiency of the active medium of this lamp reached 40% and the energy yield was 0.025 J litre–1 . Under these conditions the gain was low (less than 10–4 cm–1).
