Influence of the complex structure of the 4F3/2 — 4I11/2 gain line of the Nd3+ ions in a YAG crystal on the characteristics of the self-modulation operation regime of a ring laser

Abstract: The influence of the complex structure of the gain line of the Nd3+ ions in a YAG crystal on the operational characteristics of a ring laser in a self-modulation type I regime was investigated. It was found that preferential suppression of the wave propagating in the direction of the laser rotation can be accounted for by the presence of the imaginary component of the optical-wave gain at the frequency corresponding to the gain maximum.
