Amplification of x-ray radiation in a decaying plasma using transitions in helium like ions

Abstract: A demonstration is given of the technical possibility of x-ray amplification in a decaying dense plasma. Recombination in the ground state and accumulation of heliumlike ions in a metastable state should ensure an effective amplification in the presence of an additional long-wavelength radiation.
