Theory of a Compton laser

V. A. Dubrovskii, N. B. Lerner, B. G. Tsikin
Abstract: An analysis is made of a Compton laser with arbitrary relative orientations of the pump laser beam, electron beam, and resonator. The linear and nonlinear gain, threshold intensity of the pump beam, and output power of a Compton laser are calculated in the semiclassical approximation for conditions approaching reality. The calculation is based on the replacement of the secular Schrodinger equation with nonsecular equation by adopting a moving coordinate system in which the stimulated scattering can be regarded as the Kapitza–Dirac effect.
