Abstract: The feasibility of formation of the fourth and sixth order super-Gaussian lowest transverse modes at the output of the cavity of a stable cw CO2 laser was demonstrated experimentally. The modes were characterised by a higher power and a higher peak far-field intensity than the traditional Gaussian modes.
