Abstract:
This paper examines the refractive index change (RIC) induced in the core of Yb3+-doped active silica fibres by pulsed pumping. RIC kinetic measurements with a Mach — Zehnder interferometer make it possible to separately assess the contributions of the electronic and thermal mechanisms to the RIC and evaluate temperature nonuniformities in the fibre.
