Nonlinear optical phenomena

Highly efficient difference-frequency generation in the field of frequency-modulated optical radiation

Abstract: It is shown for the first time that when optical radiation, which is frequency- or phase-modulated by microwave oscillations, propagates through a quadratically nonlinear medium in a high-Q microwave cavity, the optical radiation energy can be converted very efficiently into the energy of a microwave of frequency equal to the modulation frequency.
