Spontaneous breaking of spectral symmetry in solid-state ring lasers

Abstract:
The spontaneous breaking of the symmetry of temporal and spectral characteristics of radiation in counterpropagating waves in solid-state ring lasers (SRLs) is found upon periodic modulation of the pump power. A comparison of experimental results with numerical simulations showed that this effect is well described by a standard SRL model.
