Abstract: Experimental results are presented of an investigation into the operation of a continuous-flow iodine laser. A high-pressure mercury lamp was used as the pump source, and a laser output power of around 1 W obtained. It is shown that a laser of this type, pumped by standard mercury lamps can have an efficiency of ~ 1% in converting electrical energy into light.
