Nonlinear optical effects and fiber optics

Multibeam self-diffraction in media with a local noninstantaneous response

M. Abdurakhmanov, S. F. Grigor'ev, O. P. Zaskal'ko, I. G. Kuznetsov
Abstract: It is shown that when transient self-diffraction of two coherent concurrent waves occurs in a medium with a thermal optical nonlinearity, the higher diffraction orders can be excited efficiently even in the presence of strong geometric dephasing (~ 50π in the experiment) which is compensated by a nonlinear reduction in the phase velocities of the initial light waves.
