Lasers and physical processes occurring in them
New data on the dynamics and spectrum of a three-component picosecond injection laser
P. P. Vasil'ev, I. S. Goldobin
Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of a new method for passive Q-switching of multicomponent injection lasers. Several unusual properties were observed in the temporal and spectral dynamics of semiconductor lasers. The physical mechanism responsible for the observed deviations from the "classical" behavior is not fully understood. It was tentatively attributed to a specific strong electrical coupling between a nonlinear absorber and a laser amplifier and to a drift of excited carriers from the absorbing to the amplifying region under the influence of a strong electric field.
