Abstract: The rate constant of quenching of the 5p5 2P1/2 level of atomic iodine by J2 molecules was determined in the gas temperature range 293–1000°K. The experimental results fitted the approximate formula k(T) = 8x10–11exp(–4.4×10–3T) cm3/sec.
