Abstract: Calorimetric measurements are reported of the bulk (volume) absorption coefficients of several commercial and laboratory-produced glasses. A description is given of the apparatus. The lowest absorption at λ–1.06 μ , amounting to ~10–5 cm–1, was found in quartz glass prepared by chemical precipitation from the vapor phase.
