Compression of laser pulses based on the phase cross-modulation effect in fiber waveguides

Abstract:
It is shown that the phase cross-modulation effect can be used for the purpose of positive or negative frequency modulation of laser pulses. Such pulses can be compressed directly in fiber waveguides in spectral regions characterized by negative or positive dispersion of the group velocities. The phase cross-modulation effect can be employed to tune continuously the carrier frequency of laser pulses.
