Abstract: A theoretical investigation is reported of the influence of the electron-phonon interaction on the long-wavelength edge of the gain band of semiconductors. A numerical study is made of the specific case of a CdS crystal. It is shown that this interaction allows us to explain some of the experimentally observed effects.
