Amplification and absorption in lasers utilizing 3p–3s neon transitions in the red part of the spectrum

Abstract:
The saturation fluxes, unsaturated gain, nonresonant loss factor, and stimulated transition cross sections were determined for electron-beam-pumped lasers utilizing the 3p[1/2]1–3s[3/2]1 (λ = 724.5 nm) and 3p[1/2]1–3s[3/2]2 (λ = 703 nm) neon transitions. The physical nature of the absorption in the active medium and its dependence on the specific pump power were analyzed.
