Control of laser radiation parameters

Change in the pulse profile and phase self-modulation in a medium of three-level atoms near a two-photon resonance

Abstract: Exact analytic solutions are obtained of the equations describing propagation of an adiabatic ultrashort light pulse. It is shown that phase self-modulation is the dominant mechanism of pulse deformation. A strong increase in the slope of the envelope is observed at the trailing edge of a pulse and this broadens considerably the emission spectrum.
