Abstract:
A theoretical investigation is made of the possibility of propagation in a birefringent optically active singlemode fiber waveguide of a signal in such a way that there are no shape distortions because of the difference between the propagation velocities of its polarization components. Both regular and perturbed waveguides are considered and the input polarizations designed to ensure a dispersion-free signal are determined. It is shown that a perturbed waveguide with a high optical activity may distort signals less than a waveguide with a low activity.
