Fine structure of the stimulated Brillouin scattering in crystals
G. V. Krivoshchekov, M. F. Stupak
Abstract:
The method of active spectroscopy was used in a study of the fine structure in the stimulated Brillouin scattering spectra of crystalline quartz and ruby. This made it possible to increase the recording sensitivity to utilize exciting radiation with a narrow spectrum (~10–3 cm–1). The experimentally determined positions of the Brillouin fine-structure lines of quartz were in good agreement with the calculations. In the case of ruby the experimental results differed from the calculations, which was clearly due to the fact that the Brillouin scattering in ruby was excited in the anomalous dispersion region.
