Stratified solutions for cooling of flashlamp-pumped lasers

Abstract:
A study was made of a dynamic light-induced stratification phase transition in an aqueous solution of butyl cellosolve containing an admixture in the form of a dye absorbing in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum. Thermocapillary "expulsion" of the disperse phase containing butyl cellosolve occurred in the direction from the cell wall into the interior of the solution. This effect could be used in systems for cooling lasers in order to increase their service life.
