Numerical simulation of the splitting of self-focusing wave beams into filaments

Abstract:
A numerical experiment is used to show that an azimuth-dependent perturbation can split an initially axially symmetric self-focusing beam into independent filaments. This can occur only if the beam power is much higher than the critical value.
