Separation of B10 and B11 isotopes in a strong infrared CO2 laser radiation field

Abstract:
The results are given of experiments in which the B10 and B11 isotopes were separated in a strong (~109 W/cm2) CO2 laser radiation field which excited BCl3 molecules with natural relative abundances of the boron isotopes. The B10Cl3 or B11Cl3 molecules were dissociated in the CO2 laser radiation field and this was followed by the reactions of the dissociation products with various acceptors. The acceptors were O2, HBr, C2D2, NO, and H2. The dependences of the enrichment coefficient on the BCl3, and acceptor pressures were determined. The separation efficiency was found and it amounted up to 25% of the molecules of the excited isotopic composition in the reaction zone for each radiation pulse.
