Anisotropic diffraction of light in a medium with an induced anisotropy

Abstract:
An investigation is made of the possibility of anisotropic diffraction of light by acoustic waves in a medium with an anisotropy induced by an external static pressure. A calculation is given of the efficiency of such anisotropic diffraction for different directions of propagation of optical and acoustic waves in cubic crystals and isotropic materials, depending on the nature of the static deformation of the medium. The results are reported of an experimental investigation of the anisotropic diffraction of light in fused quartz.
