Abstract:
A theoretical analysis is made of the reflection, emission, and conversion of H and E waves in corrugated sections of thin-film and diffused waveguides. The first and second diffraction orders are allowed for. A numerical analysis is reported of the reflection and emission by a corrugated diffused waveguide with a Gaussian distribution of the refractive index. It is found that the reflection coefficient of the E waves may be higher than the reflection coefficient of the H waves if the difference between the refractive indices of the media is small. It is shown that the maximum reflection coefficient differs from unity if the reflection involves a change in the mode index.
