Interaction of laser radiation with matter

Generation of an electromagnetic field by photoemission of electrons from the surface of conducting targets into a plasma

Yu. V. Afanas'ev, S. M. But, A. P. Kanavin
Abstract: The problem of finding steady-state fields generated by steady-state emission from the surface of planar targets into a plasma with given (unperturbed) parameters is solved. Analytic expressions are derived for the steady-state field and the dipole moment per unit area of a double layer for the case of a Maxwellian velocity distribution of the emitted electrons and an emission temperature equal to that of the unperturbed plasma. A comparison is made with the solution for emission into a vacuum.
