Abstract: Thin-film waveguides were prepared by polymerization of aromatic organic compounds in a high-frequency discharge. The refractive indices and the losses in the films were determined. Heat treatment of orthoxylene films reduced the refractive index and the film thickness; heating to 160°C increased the losses in the films.
