Theory of the dynamics of a single-mode laser

N. G. Basov, V. N. Morozov, A. N. Oraevskii
Abstract: An investigation is made of the behavior of a single-mode laser in the case when the steady-state emission is unstable. This instability makes the laser emit π pulses, which are transformed into 2π pulses when the pump power is increased. The amplitude and duration of the output pulses are calculated. The influence of the spontaneous radiation on the establishment of a statistical limit cycle is considered.
