Degree of spatial coherence of single-mode laser radiation

Abstract: The assumption of subthreshold noise excitation of modes with higher transverse indices is used in theoretical estimates of the degree of spatial coherence of the radiation generated in a laser emitting modes with just one (lowest) transverse index. It is shown that a comparison between the theory and experiment can be made only for specific geometry and operating conditions.
